[J4558/7558] Inspirational portrait

This is a portrait made by David Olkarny.

According to the photographer, he used the 50mm 1.4 lens, one alien bee b400 through white umbrella on the subject’s right side at low power to make this portrait.

What I like about the portrait is the softness and unification of the color: the background color, the eye of the subject and the smoke fit perfectly. The flash brightened half of the subject’s face whereas the smoke from the cigarette covered the other half of his face. The combination of brightness and darkness is quite interesting. Both the eye and the smoke are helpful to show the characteristics---the toughness, seriousness---of the subject.
